What can we do?

I'm sure that we all know people who are struggling right now with whatever trials are in their lives. Often times I feel helpless or just don't know what I can do to help anyone else. Or I'm just so consumed with my crazy life that I think that I don't have time to help anyone else. I wanted to share with you something a very good friend of mine told me when she was trying to figure out how to help a good friend of ours who was dealing with some pretty stressful things in her life. She said:

"I was so heartbroken knowing that Stacey had been going through such tough times and had been keeping it locked inside for so long. I thought "what can I do to help her?" In all reality, there was nothing I could "do" but support and show her all the love I could. Unfortunately, I could not be there for her to lend her my shoulder. But there was something I COULD do. I was inspired! I looked around me...I saw a neighbor who had shut down, she seemed in some kind of turmoil or pain. Normally I would have looked the other way, but I said "what if I could make a difference? What if she really needs someone to talk to?" So I did it. I went over to her house yesterday and asked her if she wanted to come over, talk and have a glass of wine. We have never done this before and I am so glad I asked. Turns out, she did need someone to talk to, she broke down about her son being in Iraq, her Mother-in-law dying of cancer who will not make it past this week and her husband who just lost his job with the LPGA. I had no idea. She was at rock bottom and told me that I saved her."

I was so touched by what she did, and it really inspired me to look outside of myself and find those people who are struggling, and be a friend. I encourage everyone else to do the same.

I totally agree, there have been several opportunities lately that I have had, to help someone that seemed perfectly fine, but indeed needed a friend. I'm so grateful to have those little moments of inspiration.

I agree that everyone needs to do this more, myself being the biggest one. I too get so into the struggles of my life, it becomes easier to forget other people around me. Thanks for that, it is true that a lot of times all people need is a friend to talk to.
